Custom Black Quartz Expands a Decorative Driveway Circle at a Lake Tyler Home

At a new-construction home on Lake Tyler, the front drive already included a decorative circular feature made with light concrete sections and bands of stone. Once the driveway and home came together, the homeowners felt the original circle looked too small for the scale of the space.

Epoxy Coat Masters used an outdoor quartz coating system to expand the feature beyond its original edge. A black base coat and black quartz created a new outer ring that made the circle appear larger, framed the existing design, and gave the front drive a stronger focal point.

Why the Decorative Circle Needed a Larger Border

The center feature was already part of the home’s front drive. It included large, light-colored concrete sections divided by decorative stone bands, creating a custom design that stood apart from the surrounding driveway.

The homeowners liked the feature itself, but its original dimensions did not feel proportional to the large driveway and the scale of the house.

Removing the original circle would have meant losing the concrete-and-stone design they wanted to keep. Epoxy Coat Masters expanded its visual footprint by adding a new ring around the entire feature. The finished quartz border makes the circle appear larger while leaving the original materials visible in the center.

Creating a New Border Around the Existing Design

This project required the new border to work with the circular feature already in place. The quartz ring had to follow the existing curve consistently from beginning to end. Changes in width would be easy to see in a circular design, especially from the elevated viewpoint at the front of the home.

The added ring is approximately two feet wide and covers about 120 square feet. It creates a clear transition between the decorative center and the surrounding driveway.

The dark border also helps visually contain the multiple materials within the circle. The light concrete panels, stone divisions, landscaping, and planters now sit inside one defined frame.

Why Black Quartz Worked for This Driveway Accent

The homeowners selected a black base coat and black quartz for the new ring. Using a black base beneath the quartz helped create the dense, dark appearance they wanted. Black quartz was then broadcast into the base coat to build the textured decorative surface.

The color creates a strong contrast against the light concrete surrounding the feature. It also coordinates with darker details on the home, including the black-framed windows and other modern exterior elements.

Quartz is a practical option for outdoor concrete coating projects because it creates a textured finish and can be coordinated with the colors and materials already present on a property. It can cover a larger outdoor surface or define a smaller architectural feature such as this driveway circle.

For this project, the purpose was very specific: create a black outer band that would enlarge and frame the existing design.

Preserving the Original Concrete and Stone Feature

The center of the circle remained intact. Its light concrete sections and decorative stone bands were already an important part of the property’s landscaping and front-drive design. The new quartz ring was added around that feature rather than covering it.

This approach allowed the homeowners to keep the original appearance while adjusting its proportions. The finished design now has three visible layers: the concrete and stone feature in the center, the black quartz ring surrounding it, and the original light concrete driveway beyond the ring.

Each layer helps define the next. The dark quartz provides enough contrast to keep the decorative center from blending into the rest of the driveway.
